No overdue charges of any sort on Lost item which is returned

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct,Direct,Local,Total Care

    Description:
When an item that was declared lost is returned, we do NOT want to our system to charge any overdue fees. Currently, the system does charge the overdue fees. How do we stop it from charging these fees in this situation?   [Note that our system correctly refunds the handling and replacement charges while it maintains the notice cost.]

We have experimented by changing values in tab100 (LOST-LOAN-CREDIT-METHOD, LATE-RET-FINE-WHEN-LOST) and have also looked at tab18 and tab34, but cannot find a way to produce the desired results: no overdue charges on an item that is returned after being declared lost.

    Resolution:
LATE-RET-FINE-WHEN-LOST=Y is the normal setting that customers use. This makes the customer pay any fine which has accrued before the item is declared Lost.

If the desired result is that fines are charged when the book is not declared Lost, but no fines are charged when it *is* declared Lost,  that option does not exist in Aleph.  (Probably because it could be susceptible to abuse: the patron could keep the book for 150 days, declare it Lost, keep it for another 100 days, return it, and pay no fine.)

This would need to be enhancement request, pursued through ELUNA.
