Problems with xxx01 file-90 and ue_01 running simultaeously
- Article Type: General
- Product: Aleph
- Product Version: 21
Problem Symptoms:
Doing keyword searching in the OPAC:
* when the xxx01 ue_01 is running, the search takes 30-60 seconds and "top" %iowait is in the 20-35% range, but
* when ue_01 is *not* running, the search takes about 10-20 seconds and the "top" %iowait is in the 0-10% range.
One odd thing which may be related to this problem is the fact that, though util e/2 stops the ue_01_a and ue_01_z0102 processes, it *never* stops the ue_01_word_parallel process -- that *always* has to be killed.
When the xxx01 p_file_90 process is running (along with the ue_01) the %iowait is in the 50-70% range and the searches will always time out.
Cause:
Uncertain.
Resolution:
Having the xxx01 ue_01 running at the same time as file-90 slows down these processes and the entire system. Ex Libris' recommendation is to stop the xxx01 ue_01 while file-90 is running, and restart it only after it is done.
Additional Information
The problem is exacerbated when the records are large, with many 5xx fields. See KB 16384-57697 ("ue_01 Word indexing extremely slow").
