Renewal period limit reached" with "Renew loan by barcode" option

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
In ABC50, when I tried to renew the "Informationist", item: 31571000909716, I was not able to using the "Renew loan by barcode" option from the Circulation tab at the top of the screen. I *was* able to renew it by using the "renew marked" button in the patron loan screen. It now has a due date of 5/31/11 (28 days per tab16 plus one day for closed on Memorial Day).

I am not sure why the renewal does not work via the dropdown menu. Everything appears correct in tab16 for a renewal.
    ABC 08 ## ## + 00000028 07 A 2100 0000 00005 006 006 2 028 01 D028 0000002.00 000 2 01

Error message is: Renewal period limit reached - Renew date: 05/31/11 Limit date: 05/13/11. 0162

    Resolution:
The Renewal period limit in the "Renewal period limit reached" message comes from tab16, column 22.

This message is # 162 in the $alephe_error_eng/check_circ file. It is issued by the check_circ_3 routine, specified in the $data_tab/tab_check_circ table.

The check_circ_3 takes the original due_date and adds the tab16, column 22, "Maximum renewal period" value to it. If this value is less than the due-date generated by the renewal, check_circ_3 issues this message.

    In your case:

The original due date was April 15, the col. 6 loan period is 28 days, and the item is being renewed on May 2 (that is, it's overdue). Col. 22 is "D028".

The renewal would make the item due on May 31, but, since this is greater than April 15 + 28 (= May 13), message 162 is issued.

If you want to permit renewal in such cases, you need to increase the value in tab16, col. 22, or -- as is done in the distributed usm50 tab16 -- leave col. 22 blank.
