    Description:
We are allowing holds on available items and changed the tab15.eng col. 8 to "C" to allow this. So when searching the OPAC the "request" link displays and then you can login and place the request.

We are thinking about restricting this to certain patrons which would require using "Y" in tab15.eng col. 8:
! Y - item can be requested. In addition, item availability
! is checked when a hold request is placed.
! If a copy is available, and the patron does not have permission
! for requesting an available item, a message displays.

However, when we try this, the "request' link in the OPAC only shows after a patron logs in.

What we want is for the "request" link to show for everyone but then when a patron logs in only allow those with the right permission (Allow hold on available item) to place the request. Is this possible?

    Resolution:
The abc50/tab/tab_hold_request has the following line:

    PRE   check_hold_request_g

    "g" is "z305 hold-on-shelf (item availability)"

The effect of this is to not display the REQUEST option for available items.

You want the Request link to show for everyone.

You need to comment out the above PRE line (-- but leave the POST check_hold_request_g as is ).
