Returning on-loan items via In-house Use function

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Question

Is it possible to have the item automatically checked in when an In-house Use scan is performed? As it stands now, staff need to first check if the item is checked out and then perform an in-house scan to track usage.

    Answer

An on-loan item is not returned by the In-House Use function.

    Additional Information

This can be made into a one-step process by using the regular return screen (instead of the In-house Use function): when a not-on-loan item is returned via the Return function, rather than creating a z35_event_type 61 (regular return), the system creates a z35_event_type 82 (not-on-loan return). (The In-House Use function creates a type 80 record.)

The cir-30 General Circulation Statistics service includes neither the type 80's or the type 82's. KB 8192-2759 ("How to gather In-house use statistics") includes SQL which can be used to gather these statistics.

The priv-21 ("Detailed Circulation Statistics") service, available on EL Commons, developed by Al Rykhus at MN PALS, which produces Circulation statistics by Collection and Call number range, includes both the type 80 and type 82 event types.
