    Description:
The Aleph sip2_server log shows an error when the initiation message is received from the 3M Self-Check Machine. The log shows this as the message being received:

    IN ?9900302.00

The control character at the head of the '99' SIP2 message code is /373. This results in a code with /373 in the first position and a standard '9' in the second position. Since Aleph doesn't know what this message is, it sends a 96 (Resend) message

    Resolution:
This was caused by the set-up on the self_check machine. The Communication Method on the Network tab of the Self-Check Management Tool was set for "Telnet", rather than "Socket". After changing the configuration and rebooting the self-check machine, the standard 99 message was sent, and Aleph responded with the standard 98 message.
