Serial Pattern with Plus Sign ( ) Not Working

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
In a serial pattern field 853, enumeration subfields (a-h), a plus sign (+) can be used to indicate an ordinal number.
According to MARC, the plus sign can be used either preceding the caption or by itself when there is no caption.
However, the plus sign by itself has stopped working.

In an item record generated today, on our test server, item 94031-440, has dropped the volume designation entirely.
At the same time, the HOL #001556154 853X field, subfield $$a has been deleted.

Compare this with item 94031-430, which has the ordinal before the year in an item record generated last year.

For a case in which the ordinal is properly generated (with the plus sign before a caption), see item 786130-520 (generated today) and item 786130-510 (generated last year). The 853X field in HOL #001267097 has retained 853X $$a.

    Resolution:
Two changes make the reported problems disappear:

[1] 853_numbering was not correct. Changing this made the 853X$a subfield stop disappearing.

    Note:
[a] The "?" wild card can be in place of 0, 1, or more characters.
    [b] order is critical

[2] Following the "+" sign with 2 space signs ("^^") resulted in the correct appearance of the ordinal number with no caption but with no additional spaces in the resulting text.
Normally the space sign is completely ignored in this subfield.

This second issue is fixed in v21 by rep_change 000097.
