Setting up parallel indexing: file_list and tablespaces

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
I have opened a new xxx21 library (parallel to our xxx01) for parallel indexing and am at step 3 in the "Parallel Indexing" document: Adjust the Library's file-list. When I opened the library, I used xxx01 as the template library.

    1. In xxx21/root the file-list is empty, should that be a copy of the vcc01 list, or does this list have to be created from scratch? It looks like the file-list really needs only the index files to be defined along with logical symbols to the real bib files and a couple of others. Is this correct?

    2. Should the ORACLE tablespaces for the xxx21 indexes be the same as those used by the real (xxx01) library, or should we create new Oracle tablespaces?

    Resolution:
    1. Though the xxx21 parallel indexing library *could* contain all of the files in the xxx01 file_list, this is not necessary: it needs ot contain only the index tables which are being written and "LS"s to the tables which are being read. [Jerry Specht]

    2. The Oracle tablespaces for the xxx21 tables could be the same as the xxx01 or different -- it doesn't matter. (If the disk the xxx01 tablespaces reside on is running short of space, you may want to put these xxx21 tables in a new tablespace on a different disk.)
