Title browse for "A " not working

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
In our production catalog, we are trying to do a Title-begins-with search for "A+ certification study guide". The "+" is stripped out of the text for searching, although it shouldn't be, since it is not normalized out for indexing. And we are positioned in the "A C"s, while the "A+" records are after the "A Z"s. Note that this also occurs in EXU. (Note: We have exactly the same issue with "C++".)

    Resolution:
This UTIL-F-4 line for Z01 shows that this title is filed under "A+": filing_text ...........A+ CERTIFICATION STUDY GUIDE.
It seems that, after the browse program builds the filing-text using tab_filing, it removes the "+".
There are two possibilities for handling this:
    1. Change "+" to blank in tab_filing. This means that when the "a+ certification" browse positions on "a c", the heading would actually be there. The only problem with this is that if someone enters a browse *ending* in "+", it doesn't work. Thus, somewhat better is:
    2. Change "+" to " plus" (0020 0050 004C 0055 0053) in the $alephe_unicode/unicode_to_filing_01. This means that the "a+ certification" would position on "a plus". All the "a+"s would be grouped together here. The heading would still *display* as "A+ ...".
