Unable to Retrieve Records Lacking an 852h Field for a Specified 852c Field

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
I am trying to use p_ret_01 to retrieve all bib records in with collection code XYZ (852c) that are lacking an 852h call number field as follows:

    ,noxyz852h,000000000,999999999,,00,00000000,99999999,00000000,99999999,,AND,NOT,852
    ,c,xyx,xz,,,,852
    ,h,zz,zz,,,,,,,,,,,00000000,99999999,ABC

I am retrieving 0 records with this service. Can you diagnose the problem with my structuring of the p_ret_01 service command?

    Resolution:
One problem I see with your parameters is that the 852 should be 852##. I'm pretty sure all of your 852's will have at least one indicator. However, that's not going to solve your problem. You can locate missing tags using p_ret_01, but you can't locate missing subfields. You can, however, find records that have a specific subfield. So you can locate all the HOL records that have XYZ and then all HOL records that have XYZ and an 852 $$h. Then those HOLs that are in the first set of records and not in the second should be those without an 852 $$h. One other problem you have to deal with is that if you run p_ret_01 against xxx01 looking for expanded HOL data (which you are doing, according to the RET section of tab_expand in xxx01), you will get all 852's so you might have one 852 with XYZ and no $$h, but another HOL with a different collection code that does have an 852 $$h. So you are going to have to run p_ret_01 directly on xxx60 so you are looking at individual HOL records.
