    Description:
We're unable to edit bibliographic title records. The records are grayed out in the cataloguing edit window. Please advise.

    Resolution:
This is like KB 8192-2043: a problem with the abc01 permission.dat.

I see the following in your /exlibris1/aleph/u17_1/abc01/pc_tab/catalog/ directory:

    -rw-rw-r-- 1 aleph exlibris 6961 Jan 19 2007 scancode.dat
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 aleph exlibris 1941 Jan 19 2007 permission.dat
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 aleph exlibris 2468 Dec 10 12:55 fix_doc.eng
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 aleph exlibris 807477 Dec 10 12:57 pc_cat.pck
    drwxrwxr-x 2 aleph exlibris 8192 Dec 10 12:57 html/

It seems that, though permission.dat was changed on Jan 19, 2007, it may not have actually been in effect -- if util m/7 was not done to create a new pc_cat.pck.

util m/7 *was* done on Dec 10 and it may be that the changed permission.dat took effect only then.

    permission.dat has the following lines:

    !1 2 3 4
    !!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!-!-!!!!!!!!!!
    MLCAT ##### Y
    MLCATII ##### Y

You will note that columns 2 and 3 are off by one character.

    You have two choices:

    1. Correct the lines in permission.dat to these:

    !1 2 3 4
    !!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!-!-!!!!!!!!!!
    MLCAT ##### Y
    MLCATII ##### Y

    and do util m/7.

    2. permission.dat is necessary only if you want to specify that certain fields can only be edited by certain catalogers. Many sites don't use it. You can disable permission.dat by renaming it to "permission.dat.notused" and doing util m/7 to create a pc_cat.pck with permission.dat omitted.
