Unable to open Report Studio within ARC: Error 'Multi File Request Error'

Description
When I select any existing query (created using Query Studio) and click on "Open in Report Studio" I get the error
Multi File Request Error
http://server.com:8081/pat/rsapp.htm
The web request failed.
404 - Not Found

and cannot proceed any further.
This happens irrespective of username or browser used.
Resolution:
Check the browser settings

and adapt them if required.
