    Union catalog / Union View searches don't work in Web: results not linkable

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 19.01

    Description:
    In the Union catalog (base U-xxx90 or U-xxx01 or U-xxx30) in the Web:

    * A Find search gives a list of index terms rather than brief bib information. If you click on an entry, you get the error "The page cannot bedisplayed."

    * A search on System Number gives the Aleph error: "The requested record is not in the database."

    * A Browse search appears to correctly display the hits, but when you click on a link to see the bib record, you get the Aleph error: "Set of documents does not exist.".

    If you "Change database" to the plain xxx90 (or xxx01 or xxx30) or if you search xxx90 (or xxx01 or xxx30) in the GUI, the searches work OK. Why?

    Resolution:
    The union catalog (base U-xxx90) (or U-xxx01 or U-xxx30) uses the z120 and the z127 files; the plain xxx90 (or xxx01 or xxx30) does not use these tables.

    These symptoms indicate that the z120 is present but the z127 is not. Do:

    SQL-xxx90> select count(*) from z127;

    The count should be equal to the number of Z120 and Z00 records. If it's not, you will need to create the Z127 like this:

    csh -f $aleph_proc/create_z127 > & create_z127.log &

    This takes only a few minutes to run.

    If this problem is occurring with the Union View on an xxx30 Course Reserve database, see KB 16384-3649.
