Upgrade Express: ".. unable to open dump file for read ... Permission denied"

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
    [From ELUNA SysAdmin list:]

We started our migration from 18.01 to 20.01 and, for each library we are migrating, we noticed this error in DataPumping import error log.

Connected to: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options
    ORA-39001: invalid argument value
    ORA-39000: bad dump file specification
ORA-31640: unable to open dump file
    "/exlibris/aleph/upgrade_express_1901_2001/data/a18_1/pto01/files/dpdir/pto0101.dmp"
    for read
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
Linux-x86_64 Error: 13: Permission denied Additional information: 3

    Import (dp) pto01 ended

I tried a manual execution of the impdb command for import and it ends in the same way.

Exporting without datapumping seems to work.

    Resolution:
    [From Alexandra Major:]

Did you check the OS-Permissions on the dmp-files (user-, group- and file-permissions) and of the dpdir? The error messages 'unable to open
for read' and 'permission denied' look like permission-problems.

    [From site:]

I checked the permissions for the files and they were right. But i never checked the /exlibris/aleph/update_express_1901_2001
permissions and they were 700 (for aleph user). Probably impdp program execs as "oracle" and not as "aleph" user. Now it's working.
