Use of Item Form; inclusion of $$i from HOL record

    • Article Type: General

    Description:
We control our call numbers with the HOL record. However, we now need to use the Item Form option 1 or 2 as we are planning to give sequential numbers to books going into storage. When I tested it on our Test server, I set the item to TEMP, then generated a number via the ?mcl-stor. However the PSTx's look odd:

    PST8 L $$0Z30$$1000326624000010$$bMCL$$cMAIN$$oBOOK$$d01$$fY$$rMGU60-000393657$$n8
    $$hstor000000003$$iB5 1974
    $$91$$3Book$$4Humanities and Social Sciences$$5McLennan Bldg$$6Regular Loan
The $h has the stor number, but it is also pulling in the $i from the HOL record.
So does this mean we cannot use the Item Form 1 or 2 because we use HOLs? Or is there a way around this?

    Resolution:
Though it seems that this should not happen, there is a workaround:
    1. Switch the call number type in the item to "4" ("Shelving Control Number"). The system puts the number for type 4 into subfield j and the subfield i from the HOL no longer 'bleeds' into the item.
    2. Add PST4 to the indexing and display tables.

    Additional Information

    call numbers, HOL record
