    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23

    Problem Symptoms:

    When receiving an NCIP LookupUser message from an external source, Aleph responds with a LookupUserResponse message with error "User Unknown". The <Value> field in the error message contains the contents of the <Value> field of the <FromAgencyId> structure received in the original LookupUser message.

    Cause:

    A number of factors can elicit the "User Unknown" error in an NCIP LookupUser procedure. In this case, the LookupUser message sent the Patron Barcode as the <UniqueUserId>, but the tab_ncip.conf table in the relevant ADM library shows this setting in the [Default] section:

    match_id_type = 00

    match_id_type of 00 indicates a lookup by Patron Record Number.

    Resolution:

    To look up users by Patron Barcode, the setting should be:

    match_id_type = 01

    To look up users by either Patron Record Number or Patron Barcode:

    match_id_type = auto
