Vendor-processed bib records missing OWN, LKR, and CAT fields

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
We extracted bib records with p_print_03 and sent them to a vendor for processing. On re-import they overlaid correctly, but we find that the alephabetic tags (such as OWN, LKR and CAT) are missing. What causes this?

    Resolution:
When p_print_03 is run specifying "MARC" as the Format, only numeric tags are included.

To include alphabetic tags, you must select "MARC with alphanumeric tags" as the Format.

[A Note from Mike Rogers, U. Tennessee Knoxville:]

One of our vendors' processing systems cannot handle the Aleph alphanumeric tags, so we export the records using p-print-03 with the MARC option (excluding the alphanumeric tags).
On re-import, we specify a merge routine using tab_merge, tab_merge_overlay, and tab_preferred. Before loading the records back into Aleph we run p-manage-38 using the merge routine. The merge routine overlays the incoming records with the existing records and keeps the alphanumeric tags of the existing records (based on the parameters of the merge routine).

We can then load the records with p-manage-18, specifying the option "Update current records in the database" and "Replace entire record".
