    Version control in version 16; Type=version vs Type=sp_exe ?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
    How can I have the system automatically get new GUI files from the server (version check)? (It's not doing it.)

    Resolution:
    In version 16, you can get new GUI files from the server either by checking "version check on boot" or by clicking on the \ALEPHCOM\BIN\version.exe file.

    In either case,
    when you have "Type=<blank>" or "Type=version", version check will look in the /exlibris/aleph/a16_1/aleph/pc_exe/version/ directory;
    when you have "Type=sp_exe", version check will look in the /exlibris/aleph/a16_1/aleph/pc_exe/sp_exe/ directory.

    The latter is where Service Packs place their new GUI files. The new GUI files you will be receiving from Ex Libris will be coming via the Service Packs, so having it as Type=sp_exe seems to make the most sense.

    If you want to distribute a version of a GUI file which you have created/updated locally, you would need to place it in the ./sp_exe/ directory -- or put it in ./version/ and then have the staff's alephcom.ini point to "version" instead.
