    Version control in 17

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 17.01

    Description:
    Version control does not seem to be working in our version 17 installations. We have used the version.exe in the v. 15 GUI, but in 17 it is called VERUTIL.EXE and I am having no luck running it. It gives the error "Failed to upgrade ALEPH GUI!"

    The settings in my alephcom.ini file are:
    [VersionControl]
    Library=USM01
    Type=
    RunAtStartup=Y

    And the PCVER setting in library.ini looks like this:
    PCVER PCVER hickory.palni.edu:6505

    On the server, I'm trying to make it so that it automatically uploads a new circ.exe file and a window.dat file. The server directories look like this:

    /exlibris/aleph/a17_1/aleph/pc_exe/version/circ/bin/circ.exe
    /exlibris/aleph/a17_1/aleph/pc_exe/version/circ/tab/eng/window.dat

    According to everything I've read, this should be enough to get the version control to work, but so far no luck.
    Can you see anything I'm missing?

    Resolution:
    The Version Control works differently in V17. It is built-in and starts automatically when the GUI starts (any module).
    It is set from the GUI and not by double-clicking the VERUTIL.exe.
    Please open any GUI module, go to ALEPH menu, and select Version Check option.
    In this option you can define the version check directory, set it to run on startup etc. The Version Check will be started automatically when any GUI module is open.
    Also, it is possible to skip the check at startup, so that it will not be activated during the working day, only for the next day.
    See Version Check Online Help file in the ALEPH-Update Version window (accessible via ALEPH menu / Version Check).
