What files can be deleted in making work space for p_manage_01?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
The "how to run indexes" guide mentions removing unnecessary files from data_scratch and data_files before running p_manage_01. How do I know which files in those directories I can delete? All of them?

Do any of our other related apps (SFX, MetaLib and ARC) use those directories?

    Resolution:
The issue is the space in the filesystem/disk on which the $data_scratch and $data_files reside. If the $LOGDIR and $alephe_scratch are part of the same filesystem as the $data_scratch, then the main idea is to delete files from those to temporarily make room for the p_manage_01 $data_scratch files. Note: you don't need to worry about deleting the $data_scratch manage_01 word files; the job deletes all the old ones at the beginning of each run.

The $LOGDIR files are usually good candidates. You shouldn't need more than a couple days worth and they are often quite large. As described in KB 3966, we suggest *not* generating the pc_ser files. $alephe_scratch job logs are also candidates.

You can use util x to purge certain other older files.

Typically, other applications will be sharing space in the /exlibris filesystem -- but *not* in the /exlibris/aleph/.... The files in that directory and its subdirectories are Aleph-only.
