When do you recommend using Y for tab100 AUTO-TRUNCATE-Z01-FIND?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
When do you recommend using Y for the AUTO-TRUNCATE-Z01-FIND switch in tab100 and when should I use N?

    Resolution:
This GUI Standard Number search is using the STIDN index, and the STIDN tab00.eng entry specifies "21" as the filing routine:

    H STIDN IND 21 00 00 Standard Identifiers

Routine 21 does not specify "isbn" as a filing routine, therefore, the index entry generated is the entire subfield.

The search "0585181845?" *does* retrieve the "0585181845 (electronic bk.)" record.

    You have four choices:

    1. Instruct staff to include the "?" at the end of the number when searching "Standard Identifiers".

    2. As described in KB 15792, change the tab100 AUTO-TRUNCATE-Z01-FIND=N to AUTO-TRUNCATE-Z01-FIND=S.

    3. Instruct staff to *Browse* for ISBN's rather than doing the Find. (The Browse does truncation automatically.) Or

    4. If they don't like using the Browse, add this line to pc_tab_sear.eng:

    FI ABC01 L ISBN ISBN

(This presumes that the tab_filing entry for ISBN includes the line "isbn".) Then staff can FIND on the ISBN index instead of the "Standard Identifiers". Note: If you don't have an "ISBN" Direct Index and do have an "020" index, you would need to specify "020" as the index in the above pc_tab_sear.eng line instead of "ISBN".
