    Which z309 records does cir-78 delete?

    Question

    Does cir-78 ("Clean up Circ Logger") delete all z309 (Circulation Logger) records older than x date -- or just certain ones?

    Answer

    The Transaction type can be "All", "Loan", or "Cash":

    "Loan" removes Actions 03,04,05,06,07,08,10,24,25,27,28,29, and 30. (It also removes Action 01 as part of Action 03 removal.)

    "Cash" removes Actions 50,52,54,58,59,and 62

    "All" removes all of the preceding + 64, 65, and 66.

    Some of the following Transaction Types may not be removed by *any* cir-78 setting:

    00,02,09,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,26,51,53,55,56,57, and 60

    See the attached document for info on what type each number corresponds to.

    Since the z309 records are just log records -- and duplicate the info in such other circ records as the z35, z36h,z37h, and z31 -- you may want to use SQL to remove these undeleted z309 records after three or five years if some of these other record types are being kept for the reasons described in the "Best practices - retention of item/circ history tables" article linked to below.

      z309 action types 01 and 51 are not deleted by p_cir_78 -- or by anything else

    cir-32 scrubs the patron ID in all z309 records older than x date -- even if the item is still on loan.
    cir-78 deletes the log entries of all "return-type" transactions but (it seems) may leave certain loan/renew transactions indefinitely
