    Description

    What is the Z30-MAINTENANCE-COUNT field and how is it used?

    Resolution

    The z30.pdf document has the following for the Z30-MAINTENANCE-COUNT: "This field specifies how many times the item has been loaned till now. This field is important for maintenance purposes. It is relevant only for the “loans” unit type in the maintenance profile. Each loan action updates this field. When an item returns from maintenance, the use-count is set back to zero."

    The Z30-MAINTENANCE-COUNT was added to the item record based on the idea that after xx uses laptops and other equipment will require maintenance.  Every loan of the item is included in the maintenance count.  When the item is returned from maintenance the count is set back to zero.

    The Help for the cir-36 ("Maintenance List") Service says that it "produces a list of items that need to be sent to maintenance in the specified time period. If the Update Database parameter is set to Yes, the service also attempts to make a booking for relevant items. It is recommended to run this service on a regular basis."

    When an item with a maintenance booking request is next returned, the circ staff will be alerted and send the item for maintenance.  {Specifically, the pc_cir_c0476 (Get/Update Maintenance Record) program calls the ./com/create_booking_for_maintenance program, which consults the Z327 Maintenance Profile record (which defines when and in what way the item must be sent for maintenance).}
