    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Question

Please provide answers to FAQs on the patron ID-VERIFICATION field:

    1. Does the data in the ID-VERIFICATION field in the ID Section of the PLIF control web access?

    2. Is the data displayed in the Barcode Verification field in the Global Patron screen in the Circulation GUI?

    3. Can the data in the ID-VERIFICATION field in the ID Section of the PLIF be changed from one string to another?

    4. Can the characters in the string be alphanumeric?

    5. The PLIF format indicates that the length of the field must be a maximum of 20 characters. Is there a minimum?

    Answer

    1. The $usr_library/tab/tab_bor_id.eng ("Management of Patron ID's") controls Web access. If the tab_bor_id.eng entry for this ID type (01, 02, etc.) has "Y" in column 6 ("Can be used as a key to retrieve a Z303 record in the Web OPAC"), then it can control Web access.

    2. If the ID-TYPE is "01", then the PLIF ID-VERIFICATION will appear as the Barcode Verification in GUI Circ.

    3. As long as this ID type is not the PLIF "MATCH-ID-TYPE", it can be changed via the PLIF.

    4. Yes, the string can be alphanumeric. Letters should be uppercase.

    5. There is no minimum length to the ID-VERIFICATION (z308_verification) field.
