A rerun got the same errors (but in a different cycle).

Resolution:
Implementing gsort version 5.0 (replacing gsort 2.0) corrected the problem. (The code goes to great lengths to avoid duplicate file names.)

Note: We find that this newer version of gsort is also faster.
