    Question

    1. In running ret-01 ("Retrieve Catalog Records") in library xxxnn what should be specified for the p_ret_01_loop_length in the ./xxxnn/prof_library file? And
2, what number of processes should be specified on the submission screen?

    Answer

    1. In a library with 500,000 doc records or more, a p_ret_01_loop_length of "50000" should be specified. In a library with fewer than 500,000 records, divide the number of records by 10 to get an appropriate loop length. In a 200,000-doc-record library, this would be "20000".

    2. If ret-01 is being run during off-hours, when there's little use of the server, specify 12 processes. During the day, 4 processes -- with monitoring via "top". If found to be OK, increase it in future runs.

    Additional Information

When p_ret_01_loop_length is not specified in ./xxxnn/prof_library a value of 5000 is used.
