    p_union_14 reporting z98 updates

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
    Will you explain why the p_union_14 log is reporting that the z98 is being updated from the z980 (see example below)? Is this new functionality? We are running what we thought was the identical back-ported version of the same code in version 15.3 and don't see this message there. We also thought that the z98 was only updated from z980 by p_union_16.

    HANDLING DOC NO. - 026748313 21:07:58
    Update z98 from z980 : 007000024366
    Update z98 from z980 : 007000335364
    <etc.>

    Resolution:
    In version 15.3, p_union_16 executes a program "fix_z98" which performs the update-z98-from-z980 function.
    In version 16, p_union_16 executes a program b_union_16_a (which updates the z120) and there is a new job -- p_union_26 -- which does what p_union_16 did in version 15.3 (i.e., it executes fix_z98).

    p_union_26 is described in version 16 rep_change 1380 (KB 9217):

    Description: A new batch service - p-union-26 - has been added. The batch transfers the temporary words table z980 into the Z98 actual words table, in order to prevent slowness in the words indexing by p-union-14.

    It seems that you should be running p_union_26 in version 16 in the same way that you were running p_union_16 in version 15.3.

    If p_union_14 is preceded by p_union_26, we may find that there are far fewer "Update z98 from z980" messages in the p_union_14 run ... and perhaps(?) the speed will be improved.
