    Description:
Can wildcards be used in To/From fields in ret_01? We're trying to use ret_01 in our HOL library to find 856 $$u with the text ECCO contained in the URL.

    Resolution:
The "from" and "to" text fields in the submission form represent left-anchored data - that is, text beginning in the left margin of the designated subfield. You can't use truncation symbols. The other retrieval service (ret-03) actually uses indexing structures for retrieving records, so you can use truncation with this service.

I see that you have built a WUR keyword index in the xxx01 library for indexing the 856, but this hasn't been done in the xxx60 library. (I understand that it's holdings records your working with.) You might consider building a WUR index on the xxx60. You could then use ret-03 to do what you want. The keyword index on the xxx60 library should run very quickly, since you are indexing very little data there. But you probably don't have to batch index at all. You might just be able to do this:

    1) Configure tab00.eng and tab11_word tables in xxx60 to index the 856 field.
    2) Run ret-01 on xxx60, retrieving all those records that contain an 856.
    3) Submit the list of records from step 2 to the service manage-40 while connected to xxx60. This will feed all of the Holdings records through the indexing daemon (ue_01) .
