tab_word_breaking routine 90

Question

The tab_word_breaking header says: "Word routine '90' is used when parsing a FIND query....". But don't the routines being used for indexing need to be coordinated with that used for searching?

Answer

The short answer is "Yes". The articles listed in Additional Information below describe instances where such discrepancies caused problems.

The special case of triple-posting of hyphens and apostrophes should be noted:

! Note that the system automatically carries out triple posting for hyphens
! and apostrophes: (1) as separate words; (2) as is (with hyphen/apostrophe);
! (3) with hyphen/apostrophe compressed....

This triple-posting may overcome certain discrepancies between indexing routines and the 90 search routine. But, in general, it would seem that the other routines and routine 90 should be as much alike as possible.
