ue_01 slow indexing Early English Books Online

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
ue_01 is slow indexing the thousands of Early English Books Online records we have received. It takes 15-30 seconds per document.

    Resolution:
tail -f run_e_01.nnnn" shows that the time is being taken in the Word indexing. We see 2-5 seconds in each "Update z98 from z980" step. util a/17/14 shows that the z9n Oracle indexes are OK. The slowness may be because there are a lot of words in these documents (possibly the number of repeated, common words, but probably just the number of words in general).

I don't think anything can be done to speed these up, but once this initial load is done, there's no reason that they would all be sent for indexing all at once like this again.... See also KB 16384-25825.

[Pre-version-15.2: We had seen problems previously in the Z01's for the Early English Books Online, but, checking SI 38384 (converted from old US PRB 6671), I see that that problem was limited to version 14.2 and would not occur in 15.2 and higher.]

See also KB 16384-57697 for additional discussion of ue_01 slowness.
