    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
The ue_01_z0102_index process keeps stopping. It processes whatever z07a records are waiting and then disappears (that is, it is no longer visible in util c/1 or ps -ef). When additional z07a records are written, they are not processed until ue_01 is restarted.

In addition, we see the following error in our version 18 aleph_startup log:

    Segmentation fault /exlibris/aleph/a18_1/aleph/exe/rts32 ue_01_z0102_index MGU01.a18_1 >>& ...

    Resolution:
The dbname "newaleph.mcgill.ca.paleph" (26 char in length) was too long for the system to handle the ctx connection. It needed to be reduced to 15 characters or less.

Changing the following line in aleph_start from:

    aleph_start: setenv ORA_HOST newaleph.mcgill.ca

    to:

    aleph_start: setenv ORA_HOST newaleph

and corresponding changes to TNSNAMES, archive logging, and RMAN (by the Oracle DBA) corrected the problem.
