    ue_08 constantly processing

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
I've noticed that the ue_08 process takes up a lot of CPU time and processing. Yet the log shows little or no activity going on.

What is this process doing all the time to take up so much CPU? Why must it run as it does? (Mostly, it is the Oracle process related to ue_08 which is using all the CPU.)

    Resolution:
The ue_08 process is reading the Z01 table looking for records with a z01_rec_key_4 value of "-NEW-000000000". When it finds such a record, it checks the xxx10 Z01 to see if there is a matching authority record for this heading. The lack of Oracle indexes on either the xxx01 Z01 or the xxx10 Z01 could cause this to be slow.

What causes Z01s to be created with "NEW"?

    1. running p_manage_02 with p_force_chk "N" (following p_manage_102, it should be "Y")

    2. the addition of a bib record containing a heading which is new to the database or the loading of new or changed authority records. (These records update the bib Z01 via the ue_11 daemon.)

ue_08 does not necessarily need to be running all the time. If you want to stop it during the day and let it run during the evening/night, that should be fine.
