    z36_no_renewal column just one digit

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Problem Symptoms:
The library policy permits patrons to renew books 12 times, but the z36_no_renewal (number of renewals) column is just a single digit (a maximum value of 9).

    Cause:
    Column to smaill.

    Resolution:
    Answer from Aleph Product Manager:

Currently there are no plans to enlarge the Z36-NO-RENEWAL field to 2 digits, and this is not on our roadmap. Due to both the complexity caused by the need to enlarge an Oracle table and the far-reaching implications of this request, we decided not to implement it.

We recommend submitting this to the IGELU/ELUNA voting procedure to pursue it further.

    Additional Information

The fact that the z36_no_renewal column is just one digit does *not* limit the number of renewals to 9. As noted in the tab16 header entry for column 21: "Maximum number of renewals. Although you can enter two digits, the definable limit is "09". For unlimited renewals, leave the column blank.

Thus, it means that you will be unable to see the number of renewals which have occurred when that number exceeds 9. Note that is *is* possible (though inconvenient) to see the actual number of renewals by searching for z65_event_type's 62,63, and 64 for this patron/item using SQL.
