Description

In an Analytics report, calculating the grand total for a column shows an incorrect result. It is supposed to display the sum of the above rows, but the number is incorrect, or the sum does not show at all.

Resolution

This can be caused by the Aggregation Rule not being set to "Sum." OBI automatically applies a default Aggregation Rule when totaling a column. Depending on the data type, this may not be set to sum.

This setting can be changed in two places.

On the Criteria tab:

1. Select the column that is being totaled and click "Edit formula"
2. Select the dropdown menu for "Aggregation Rule (Totals Row)" and choose "Sum"
   
3. Run the report and check that the sum is now calculated correctly

On the Results tab:

1. Click the pencil icon to edit the table view
   
2. Identify the column that is being totaled and click "More Options..."
3. Check the setting for the Aggregation Rule. If it is set to "Default," change it to "Sum"
   
4. Run the report and check that the sum is now calculated correctly
