    Difference between Original Record and Marc Record tabs in Merge Preview (Resolving import issues)

    Question

    When resolving import issues and viewing matched records there are two tabs, Original Record and Marc Record, on the Imported Record Details side. What is the difference between the two tabs/views? Does either affect the merge preview and/or final record?

    Answer

    * Original Record = the record exactly as it appears in the import file.
    * Marc Record = the record after Alma has done initial normalization (for example, combining the Original Record's 003 and 001 into an additional 035). This version of the record is the one used for match-checking against the existing repository before it is merged, rejected, or imported as a new Alma record.
