    Question

Our cataloguers want to use the MARC field 003 in new bibliographic records. The 003 field is present in Resource Configuration > Configuration Menu > Metadata Configuration > MARC21 Bibliographic. However, when the field is added to a bib record in Metadata Editor then saved, the 003 field disappears. What do we need to do to make this field display?

    Answer

Alma is hardcoded to remove the 003 upon saving. There is no configuration available to change this.

However, the data entered into the 003 field is not lost.  Upon saving, the 003 is added to the last 035 field as a prefix enclosed in parentheses (round brackets) along with the MMS ID from the 001 field.

    Example:

Bib record has 001 field with 994049220000951
Add an 003 field with "XYZ"
    Save the record
A new 035 field is created with value "(XYZ)994049220000951"
