How can I request new collections to be added to our Discovery Indexes, KnowledgeBases and the Alma Community Zone?

    • Product: Alma, SFX, Primo, Summon, 360 KB

    Question

How can I request new collection and data to be added to the Alma Community Zone, 360 KB, SFX, and the Central Discovery Index (CDI) for Summon and Primo?

    Answer

Requests for new content should be submitted via the Ex Libris Idea Exchange Content Forum, which is the appropriate channel for suggesting new collections and discovery feeds that you would like to see added to CDI and the Knowledge Bases (KBs).

Through Idea Exchange you can easily submit your own ideas, or you can review and vote on ideas posted from others from within the Ex Libris community.

Posting in Idea Exchange is the best way to:

    1. Review requests, pending and closed

    2. Support other community members' requests

    3. Find information on new content requests' status

Best Practice for Submitting New Requests in Idea Exchange
    1. Before submitting a new request, check if a request for this collection already exists by searching the Idea Exchange.
    2. Identify your request by choosing either "New Provider" for content providers that do not have content in Ex Libris' products, or "Existing Provider" for content providers that already have content in Ex Libris' products. The Idea Exchange forum is reviewed weekly to identify requests for "Existing Provider", in order to speed up the process for providers with established workflows.
    3. Consider where would you like to activate the content - is it more usable in the Knowledge Bases (Alma, SFX, 360), in CDI (Primo, Summon), or both. For example, metadata for content that is not full text, or cannot support portfolios will be best represented in CDI.
    4. Provide as much information as possible: collection name, direct link to the collection, material type, regional or language specifics, provider contact person, etc.

    Specifically you can suggest:

    * New collections for Discovery/CDI (Primo and Summon)

    * New collections for the Knowledge Bases (Alma CZ, SFX KB and 360 KB)

    * New Authority files to be added to the Alma Community Zone

    * Enrichment of Community Zone bibliographic records for specified collections

    * Changing from database type to electronic collection (with portfolios) type

    * For existing collections, if there are missing titles, titles that should be deleted or any other changes - please open a SalesForce case.

Product Management will review the requests and provide feedback when the request is Under Review (checking with the provider), Planned (completed process with the provider), Completed (content is now available in KBs/CDI/both), Closed (could not finalize a sustainable feed for the requested content) or Already Supported (the request is already part of KBs/CDI/both).

When a status of a request is updated to Under Review, anyone who voted for it or is following it will get an update email.

Once moved to any of the other statuses, another update email is sent, and the votes are released.

For the content forum, there are 50 voting points per user to make sure content needs can be supported extensively.

    One Idea for All

If you are suggesting new content for Discovery that is not yet in the KB you do not need to submit two entries – one idea is sufficient. We will check the availability and suitability of inclusion in all KBs and Discovery products.

    Search for Requests

Use the search box on the right to see if the idea is already listed:

Access to the Content forum is easy, whether you are navigating through Idea Exchange itself or through the Knowledge Center by using the “More Sites” drop-down menu.
