    Question:

Why is my GES (General Electronic Service) treating a record as genre=book when the genre=unknown?

    Answer:

Starting with the August 2016 release, if the genre is unknown we override it, it is substituted with a "book" value.

This applies to the getit tab.  If you have a GES rule based on rft.genre=unknown it will not work as you expect since the 'unknown' genre is read as 'book'.
