Scopus results show OpenURL Alma links despite embargo

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Alma

    Problem Symptoms:
In Scopus, users receive several resources listed as "full-text available" that are obviously out of the date range for this article when using the Scopus openurl link with the Alma UResolver. Scopus is displaying links for an article where access was embargoed.

    Cause:
This can be corrected with a change to the settings in the Admin Tool for Elsevier (who provides Scopus).

    Resolution:
To address this issue for Scopus, perform the following steps:
    1. In the Admin Tool for Elsevier, go to the Scopus tab > Linking > External Link Settings > Link Categories > Link Resolver > Open URL standard SFX (ExLibris).
    2. Change the open URL protocol setting so that version 1.0 is used.
    3. Test the same article in Scopus again -- the embargoed resources are hidden.

    Additional Information

The parameter u.ignore_date_coverage=true is being added by the Alma resolver when the parameter sid=Elsevier:scopus appears in the OpenURL being sent by Scopus. Removing that parameter from the URL results in the link resolver correctly displaying the full-text links. (Note that PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science databases were not displaying the resources that were embargoed.)
