    Question

Why is a new 035 created when I save or import a record?

    Answer

Field 035 is created as a matching field which is used when importing records.

    Creation of the field:

When a 003 field exists in a record, Alma creates a 035 field with the system number in field 001 prefixed by the information in the 003 field in brackets.
It then removes the 003 field.

So if your original record had:
    001 field containing: n##86742756#
    003 field containing: DLC

Following save in Alma, you will have:
001 field containing: The record's MMS ID
    035 field containing: $a (DLC)n##86742756#
