2023 H2

Collaborative Collections - Prevent Deletion of Bib Records According to their Metadata

What’s New Highlights Impact
Libraries will be able to prevent the deletion of bib records that contain metadata indicating that the record should be retained.
  • When enabled, Alma will prevent the deletion of bib records containing metadata that marks them as not to be deleted.
  • This validation will be added to all deletion workflows.
Libraries will be able to maintain their catalog without accidentally deleting records that they are committed to retain as part of collaborative collection agreements.

Browse Name and Subject Authority Records

What’s New Highlights Impact
Alma's browse functionality will be enhanced to support not only bib headings but also authority records, including non-preferred terms. Staff will be able to browse authority records. Staff will be able to browse authority records, showing both preferred and non-preferred terms.

Undo for Remove, Cut and Paste Field in Metadata Editor

What’s New Highlights Impact
A new action, Undo Remove, Cut and Paste Field will be added to the Metadata Editor

Catalogers will be able to undo the following actions in Metadata Editor:

  • Remove Field

  • Cut Field

  • Paste Field

Staff will be able to restore data changed by these field actions without having to reload a previous version of the record.

Authority Control – Support Respecting MARC Subfields When Linking Bibliographic Headings

What’s New Highlights Impact
In addition to field content, libraries will be able to select whether to force subfields to be taken into account when linking to bib headings. Bib record fields will only link to authority headings if the matching content will be in the same subfields.

 

The linking will accurately reflect not only matching content but matching cataloged subfields.

Support Indication Rules Form for Holdings Records

What’s New Highlights Impact
It will be possible to easily create indication rules for holdings records in the Metadata Editor, and use them for filtering holdings sets.
  • The Metadata Editor will support creating indication rules for holdings using a form, similar to bibliographic and authority records.
  • When creating a holdings set, it will be possible to apply an indication rule to create a filtered itemized set.
Staff will be able to easily filter holdings sets according to the holdings record metadata.

All Titles Staff Search – Early Access to Enhanced UX

What’s New Highlights Impact
The All Titles Staff Search will be updated and redesigned for better usability, performance, productivity, and overall user experience.
  • A new “side by side” presentation will reflect general information regarding the title and its inventory.
  • Actionable sections within the right panel will enable users to edit specific information associated with the titles' inventory without leaving the search results.
Efficient work with a Title search.

Partial Linking of Name/Title Headings

What’s New Highlights Impact
Alma will control the name portion of the name/title combination so that changes to the authorized form in the name authority record will be reflected in the bib heading.
  • When a name/title bib heading does not match an authority record, but there is a matching name authority, the heading will be partially linked to it.

  • When the authorized form of a name changes, the change will be reflected in partially-linked name/title headings.

Automated name authority updates for headings that include both name and title.

Form Editing for MARC 21 Bibliographic Records

What’s New Highlights Impact
A form cataloging interface will be available to efficiently edit MARC 21 records.
  • Catalogers will have a quick edit option, entering bibliographic data in a form, making cataloging easy and convenient for more working styles.

  • The form will display field descriptions, helping catalogers to locate the required field/subfield and enter the correct information.

Catalogers will be able to edit records in their preferred cataloging interface, making cataloging easier and more efficient for all cataloging staff and styles.
