(URM-322733 URM-23520) Set 'Date Needed By' to Mandatory on Patron Physical Request

May 2026 Fulfillment and Resource Sharing idea exchangeIdea Exchange
URM -322733
  • Moshe said to move to June

When creating a request, if the new mandatory_last_needed_date_request parameter (Configuration > Fulfillment > General > Other Settings) is set to true, the Date Needed By field (the latest date by which a requested item is actually needed) becomes a mandatory field on the Alma Request forms.

The Date Needed By field.

Date Needed By

The automatically populated Date Needed By field is evaluated independently of the Hold Shelf Period and may cause a request to be cancelled before or shortly after arrival, even if hold shelf time remains.

For more information, see Configuring Fulfillment Jobs and Creating a Request from the Institution.

(URM-322733 URM-23520) New 'Date Needed By Period'  Policy Type for Request Terms of Use Policies

May 2026 Fulfillment and Resource Sharing idea exchangeIdea Exchange
URM -322733
  • Moshe said to move to June

A new Date Needed By Period policy type was added to the request Terms of Use Policies (Configuration > Fulfillment > Terms of Use and Policies). When turned on, the Date Needed By field on the request form is auto-populated by the default value configured in the policy (independently of whatever value exists in the mandatory_last_needed_date_request parameter). All values are calculated on a calendar-day basis, including closed periods. The date can be overridden when editing the request form. Existing Terms of Use will default to a policy with a value of "None".

The Policy Details page.

Date Needed By Period

When multiple items have the same title but different Date Needed By Periods, Alma uses the latest date.

For more information, see How to Setup Requesting Policies.

(URM-320851 URM-323964) Improved Use of Network Resources in Course Reading Lists

May 2026 Fulfillment and Resource Sharing Consortia idea exchangeIdea Exchange URM-320851 URM-323964
  • Reviewed with Baruch
  • Moshe said to move to June
  • Get second screenshot below with Shoshana when she implements this for May - she will send AT invite ~1 week before

Institutions can now add resources from the Network Zone directly to locally managed reading lists. When a Network Zone resource is used in a citation, the reading list will display its availability across the consortium, including Held By information for all participating libraries.

This enhancement streamlines course support and improves visibility into shared network holdings.

The Add to reading list option.

(URM-253535) Support for "Did you mean" in Persistent Search

May 2026 User Experience, Accessibility & Infrastructure CERV CERV Enhancement (ID#36332) URM-253535
  • Move to August per Uri. Add URM-326565
  • Update RN text with blurb from Documentation tab in Jira
  • FSD: URM-253535 - [CERV 36332] Support Catalog Fuzzy Search ("Did you mean") [Part-3 - UI Infra] - EXL - URM - Confluence
  • Take a screenshot when ready (on 3 March checked with FF turned on and parameter set to true but couldnt get it to work)
  • Uri to update with benefits below.
  • OLH
    • Add OLH to Searching in Alma - Ex Libris Knowledge Center (this page was a draft before the original migration)
    • Link from RN to OLH

We have introduced a “Did you mean?” mechanism for the Alma persistent search. When Alma detects that a query likely contains a typo or a similar term, it suggests an alternative term (“did you mean”) to search for and, when the user selects it, reruns the search with that alternative. This provides .....TBD - Uri.

TBD.

TBD

This capability is available only for SOLR searches. TBD - is this relevant for users to know or is this more internal information for us?

This feature currently applies to the following search types:

  • All Titles (Keywords)

  • Physical titles (Keywords)

  • Physical holdings (Keywords)

  • Physical items (Keywords)

  •  Electronic titles (Keywords)

  • Digital titles (Keywords)

  • Digital Files (Keywords)

  • Order lines (All)

  • Works (Keywords)

This feature is enabled at the institution level by the new (TBD - is it new?) did_you_mean_search_suggestion parameter (Configuration > General > General Configuration > Other Settings). Users can turn this setting off or on in the user menu accessed from the user icon at the top right of the page (User Menu > Additional Preferences > "Did you mean" search suggestions).

For more information, see Searching in Alma.

(URM-323054) New Knowledge Center

May 2026 User Experience, Accessibility & Infrastructure URM-323054
  • See mail "April release notes: AI Knowledge Assistant and New Knowledge Center" where Tali said to raise this again in June looking to the July release

Starting with the May release, the new knowledge portal (replacing the current Knowledge Center) will introduce a powerful search experience along with an AI Knowledge Assistant that can generate AI-driven answers to your questions. As part of this transition, the AI Knowledge Assistant currently available in Alma will no longer be available, and users will be able to access this capability through the new knowledge portal.

(URM-321273) Consortial Communication Tool in Alma

August 2026 Collaborative Networks  CERVURM-321273
  • AT: AT - Consortia communication tool part 7-20260312_140741-Enregistrement de la réunion.mp4 (Maud asked Elad in "Expiry date for communication tool acceptance test recording" to make sure expiry date is removed completely as currently its for July and this might be for August)
  • In mail "March sprint for Consortia in release notes") Maud said this is for August.
  • Elad to let me know when this is done per his answer in mail "Is this how the new chat tool will look"
  • Figma: https://www.figma.com/proto/ESS9M3At...id=2091%3A7293
  • Maud confirmed that the general TOC and flow in the OLH is ok but some headings might need to be renamed e.g., Send a Message instead of Create Chat
  • Add the "Chat with Consortia" role to Privileges for Roles in Alma - Ex Libris Knowledge Center
  • Check with Maud if the following page needs to be updated: Managing User Roles - Ex Libris Knowledge Center ((Maud said we can get this info from the FSD and/or also we can see it in the dashboard in the role/privileges Service.)
  • Check if we need to update TMS so the Help for this Page will link to the relevant online help page.
  • Add the online help pages to the drafts reminder in the Outlook Calendar on Sunday 19 April
  • Check that the For more information below goes to the correct place

It is now possible for a member staff user in their Institution Zone to create and send a chat communication to a Network Zone (NZ) operator, and for an NZ operator to manage and answer those chat communications centrally in the Network Zone. At the NZ level, the new Communication tool enables group chats where all NZ operators with the relevant roles can participate.

This provides a better communication tool between members and NZ operators in a collaborative network for better cooperation.

The tool is available through a dedicated icon on the top right corner of the Alma Homepage screen at both levels (Institution Zone for Members and Network Zone for NZ operators).

TBD.

TBD

This feature is only relevant to Consortia with a Network Zone setup, for NZ/IZ members with the Chat with Consortia role.

For more information, see Consortia Communication Tool.
