    Unpaywall in CDI

Ex Libris Content Operations team met with Unpaywall to discuss the recent concerns raised by community members in various opportunities and forums.

We agreed that the community is very much interested in the collection, however the OA indication accuracy undermines the usage.

Unpaywall share our goals in increasing the accuracy of OA content, and informed us they are working diligently to improve the OA indication by developing methods to display OA only content.

Unpaywall confirmed they will start working on OA books indication, for example removing OA indication from titles in which only the TOC is available as OA.

Ex Libris Content Operations team is analysing ways to proactively filter out non-OA content. Our first focus is also on books and book chapters, and we will continue with analysing non-OA results.

These efforts will not be reflected in environments in which the API is activated, as the results from the API are coming directly from Unpaywall and will not be filtered out with Ex Libris rules.

If you wish to maintain the API which provides direct links, it may result in more results that are not OA as they will not be filtered out by our rules.

Reporting directly to Unpaywall  to support@unpaywall.org will improve the accuracy of the OA indication and will affect both the API and the collection results.

The collection is being updated twice a week, any updates will be reflected after these update cycles.
