    Updated: September 11, 2024

Primo Research Assistant helps users find an easy starting point for their research by leveraging the power of generative AI. In its initial release, Research Assistant includes the following functionality:

    • Semantic search / Natural language queries

    • Answers with references based on the abstract of top 5 results found in Central Discovery Index (CDI)

    • Links to the full text

    • Links to the complete results list in Primo

    • Search suggestions to expand topics and explore further

    • Local language support

Primo Research Assistant utilizes the CDI metadata and abstracts, transforms user queries into Boolean searches, retrieves and re-ranks top results, and presents the best answers with inline references.

    Why are we doing it?

Primo Research Assistant supports users by offering an easy starting point for their research. It provides transparency about information sources and convenient links to full texts, helping users delve deeper into their topics. This initiative aims to improve research efficiency and accessibility using extensive AI capabilities.

    What is currently being done?

Development of the Research Assistant is already underway, with key functionalities being refined and tested. The Beta Testing program was started in June 2024 and encompasses 18 institutions across 10 countries, reflecting the diversity of our global user community. We are proud to work with a group of beta testers representing various cultural and language backgrounds. Research Assistant has been activated in the production environment of the participating sites.

When will it be rolled out to customers?

The beta version of Primo Research Assistant was released to Primo VE customers on September 9, 2024.
