    Question

How does Rialto handle MARC records for titles in pre-publication (not-yet-published titles that are ordered)?

    Answer

When the title is purchased (i.e. the cart is checked out), Rialto creates a brief record as a place holder. The brief record can be suppressed from public view or not, just like with any other similar records in Alma. Once the title is published and delivered, it will be invoiced. At that point, a full record is delivered.

The delivery and overlaying/merging of the MARC records is automatically handled via import profiles. These are set up during implementation by ProQuest’s Rialto implementation team. The Library will initially hold a brief record, which is automatically updated to a full record once the title is delivered (electronically or in print).

Obtaining the full record does not require the institution's manual intervention.
