    Question

What causes a "no match" to occur upon import when using the Community Zone MARC records?

    Answer

When using the Community Zone (CZ), MARC records imported into Alma are matched against either the ISBN (020/024 fields) or the 035 fields, and in the case of Ebook Central, we use the 035 specifically to match against the unique EBC ID. An imported MARC record may result in a "no match" if a matching 020/024 or 035 field is not found in the CZ for that record. At this point, the record will still be imported as a local IZ record instead of a CZ record. It is possible that the CZ does contain a matching record, but if the match points (020/024 or 035 fields) are not found, it is considered a failsafe measure within Alma to create an IZ record instead. This prevents the issue where the record is skipped and not imported at all. This also prevents the imported MARC record from attaching to a non-matching record in the CZ and creating faulty data and records.
