    Question

How would I tell the system which preservation type to make thumbnails for?

    Answer

The algorithm for selecting a REP for thumbnail generation is as follows:
    1. Derivative copy
    2. REP with no access rights
    3. Any other REP

If you don't have a derivative copy, the system will create thumbnails from the first REP it encounters that does not have any AR, and if all REPs have AR, then it will select a random REP. Our recommendation, if you want to control the REP from which thumbnails are generated, is either to create a derivative copy, or to set AR (could be "everyone") on all REPs except the REP you wish to use for thumbnails.

    Additional Information

The structmap determines the order of the thumbnails, not the REP to use for thumbnail generation.
