Why are the catalog records returned in a Summon search not the same as the records returned when the catalog itself is searched?
The results set in a Summon search will often include records that do not display when the same search is conducted in your catalog. Reasons for this include:

Native-language search in the Summon service enhances discoverability of your collection by applying techniques such as tokenization, where a search term can be parsed into words, phrases, or meaningful elements.

Full-text indexing of e-books from various providers makes your physical books more discoverable by the Summon service's ability to retrieve a print book based on the full text of its e-book counterpart. By default, the text, "Why is this result here? Because your query matched the full text of the document ..." is included in the Summon Preview page when an item has been retrieved due to full-text matching.
- Catalog items' discoverability is increased in Summon due to the match-and-merge process. For example, a book at your institution is discoverable in Summon by a subject term cataloged by another library that also has the book.
