Summon: Add Results Beyond Your Library's Collection

    • Product: Summon

What does the 'Add results beyond your library's collection' feature do?

Note: Libraries using the legacy Summon interface should jump here. If you are not sure if your library uses the legacy or the 2.0 interface, compare your Summon search box to the legacy and 2.0 search boxes displayed in the Summon 2.0 overview.

The 'Add results beyond your library's collection' feature in Summon 2.0

The Add results beyond your library's collection feature modifies the search to include the entire Summon index (with the exception of other institutions' catalog records and Abstracting & Indexing (A&I) content (unless the resource is open access). Items from the entire Summon index are returned in search results, including resources to which the library does not subscribe.

Choose to expand your search by selecting the checkbox on the Advanced Search screen:

In the search results set, a resource to which the library does not subscribe is indicated by the exclusion of the Online icon and the availability "Citation Online" rather than "Full Text Online".

Clicking on such an item takes you to the library's link resolver which, depending on the library's setup of the resolver, may provide a way to request the item.

The 'Add results beyond your library's collection" feature in the Legacy Summon Interface

The Add results beyond your library's collection feature modifies the search to include the entire Summon index (with the exception of other institutions' catalog records and Abstracting & Indexing (A&I) content (unless the resource is open access).

When used, this feature will return results from the entire Summon index as described above, including resources to which the library does not subscribe. When this happens, patrons might be able to access the content through an interlibrary loan request.
