CIRC:Reserve E-Item field headers sometimes very large
- Article Type: General
- Product: Voyager
- Product Version: 7.0.1
Description:
Bug Report Form for Issue 16384-4161
Module: Circulation
Release(s) replicated in: 7.0.1, 7.0.2
Server Platform(s) affected: Solaris/all
PC O/S (if this is PC specific): n/a
Browser type & version (if WebVoyage): n/a
Expected Results: The column headers on the E-Items tab of a Course Reserve list should never become so high that they prevent viewing the e-item details.
Actual Results: When the total number of characters across e-item display fields reaches a state such that the Link/URL column header would only be wide enough for a single character to display, the text wraps around so that the column header becomes 7 lines high and prevents viewing of the actual e-items below the header (see attached screenshots). If either the total number of characters falls shy of this threshold (so all or at least more of the Link/URL column header is visible w/o scrolling) *or* exceeds it enough that no part of the Link/URL column can be seen without scrolling to the right, this problem will no longer occur.
Note: If there are multiple e-items on the list, the threshold can be exceeded by a combination of fields from more than one e-item – i.e., 20 characters from the 1st e-item’s Title field combined with 22 characters from the 2nd e-item’s Author field is enough to prevent the problem from occurring; if the 2nd e-item is then deleted, the display will again exhibit the problem.
Workflow Implications: Difficult for staff to view/edit e-item data.
Replication steps:
Create a new Reserve List.
Go to the E-Item tab and right click, selecting the Add new E-Item, Holdings and Bib Record option.
Supply a title with 20 0s, an author with ten 0s, and a call no., enumeration, chronology, link caption and link each with nine 0s.
Close out of Course Reserves, then click the Reserve icon and search for and retrieve your new list.
When you click on the E-Item tab, you’ll see that the column headers are now high enough to effectively prevent you from viewing the e-item data.
To fix the display, either: a) remove 5 characters from the first e-item’s title or add in 10 more, b) add 10 characters to a different field of the existing e-item, c) add a second e-item that has 20 characters in a field other than title – in all of these cases, you’ll be able to view the E-Items tab normally again.
Resolution:
Fixed in Voyager 8.1.1
